It's been a while, so here's an update on how the new (still untitled) project's coming along: This is a test to try to figure out the best way to imitate a beach/shoreline. Palms have new, cartoonier textures, and I slapped some smoothed normals on the dude.
Naturally, the distant background/sky is photoshopped in, but the whole mid- and foreground are a render straight out of maya. Transparency maps are such a life-saver! They're helping so much in maintaining the cartoony nature of our design aesthetic. I'm very excited about this.
